Welcome to Samoa Outrigger Canoe Association

Talofa, talofa, talofa lava!

The Samoa Outrigger Canoe Association bases its operations in the Samoan capital of Apia, which is very close on all sides to the beautiful and bountiful Pacific Ocean.

The main international Port is in Apia Harbour and is only minutes away by canoe from all of the current Outrigger Club locations. The Association hopes to grow the sport by heading out into the villages on all of its inhabited islands, where the traditional vaa paopao (Outrigger canoe) is employed for subsistence fishing and ocean floor foraging.

Samoa played host to the last Pacific Games in 2019 and with enhanced support in the sport of Outrigger Canoeing, hopes to host future events regional and international.

It is our hope that this site proves to be a tool that exemplifies love of our sport, and becomes a resource for developing paddlers everywhere; young and old.

Paddles up… alo!

August 2023 | Samoa

IVF World Championships

With the IVF World Distance Championships coming to Samoa’s shores in August 2023, the Association is excited to host such an auspicious event.

The Government of Samoa is the event’s strongest advocate, and shares the Association’s dream to promote and grow our sport, one which is intrinsic to the voyages of old and deeply encompassing the cultural aspects of Samoan culture.

The Va’a as it is dearly known in Samoa, is also an aspect of the iconic Samoan male tattoo depicting Samoans and all voyagers alike in their ocean journeys throughout the Pacific Ocean.
